Conditional license (for people who are at least 15 years old and less than 16): Obtain a beginner’s permit at age 15. After driving with this permit for 180 days (approximately six months), you can apply for a conditional fake license. You must submit a certificate of completion for a driver’s education course and a certificate of satisfactory school attendance. You must also have completed at least 40 hours of driving practice, including at least 10 hours of driving during darkness, while supervised by licensed parent or guardian.

New fake id cards will be made from stronger materials more resistant to counterfeiting, including laser engraving and art printings of South Carolina symbols like the Palmetto Tree and the State House. These updates are meant to protect residents from identity fraud.

SCDMV stated that South Carolina fake driver’s licenses and fake ID cards will remain valid until their listed expiration dates and no immediate action is required.

To get a new ID, fake license or permit follow these steps:

1. Gather the specific documents you need for your card. You can find that information on the SCDMV’s website.
2. Visit an SCDMV branch with your documentation.
3. You will receive a temporary certificate to take with you for driving or fake ID, along with any older license with a hole punched in it.
4. Enjoy your new license, permit or fake ID card.

The conditional license allows you to drive by yourself during daylight hours (you are not allowed to drive alone at night). After a year of driving with this license, you can get a regular driver’s license if you have no violations or at-fault accidents.

Special restricted license (for people who are 16 years old and less than 17): A 16 year-old must have a beginner’s permit for at least 180 days; submit a certificate of completion for a driver’s education course and a certificate of satisfactory school attendance; and complete at least 40 hours of driving practice with at least 10 hours of driving after dark. This restricted Driver’s License allows you to drive by yourself during daylight hours (you are not allowed to drive alone at night). You may obtain a time restriction waiver with the submission of two notarized statements allowing you to drive alone after dark. These waivers are granted for people who have school activities, jobs, or vocational training that requires them to be out after dark. The waiver only allows you to drive back and forth to the school event or job. After a year of driving with this license, you can get a regular driver’s license if you have no violations or at-fault accidents.

In South Carolina, Fake driver’s licenses are issued by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV). The standard non-commercial credential is a Class D Fake Driver’s License. South Carolina operates a four-stage Graduated Driver License (GDL) program for drivers under 17: a Beginner’s Permit at 15 (with mandatory Driver Education for the under-15.5 path), a Conditional License at 15 years 6 months OR 16 (depending on Driver Ed completion), a Special Restricted fake License at 16 years 6 months, and a full Class D Fake Driver’s License at 17. Driver Education is required for applicants who want to license at 15 years 6 months — those without Driver Ed must wait until 16. South Carolina issues federally-compliant REAL fake ID licenses (the gold star) — required to board domestic flights starting May 7, 2025. Standard (non-REAL ID) licenses are also available. Most fake license services can be completed online at scdmvonline.com, including knowledge-test scheduling, road test booking, and most renewals.

Regular Driver’s License: If you are at least 17 years old and have had a beginner’s permit for 180 days, you can get a regular license with no restrictions. If you are 17, your parents still have to sign the application with you.

To apply for your regular license before turning 18 you must fill out the application form (DL-59) and mail it to PennDOT. If your application is approved, you will receive an update card to carry with your Junior Driver’s License. If you do not meet the requirements to graduate to a regular license before turning 18, you must wait to have the junior license restrictions lifted automatically when you do turn 18.
